Gallery Statement

Since its founding in 1986, Galerie Michael Schultz has focused on contemporary painting and adjacent artistic developments. It shows exhibitions of 20th century art as well as current positions. Its headquarters is Berlin.

At the center of the exhibition program are German post-war painters and important American positions. Georg Baselitz, Markus Lüpertz and A.R. Penck have been part of the program since the early years. In the 1990s, Anselm Kiefer, Gerhard Richter and Sigmar Polke joined. American positions include Pop Art artists Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol and James Rosenquist, as well as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring.

The discovery and promotion of European and Asian artists is an important pillar of gallery work. It focusses on the creative process of the artists. Results are shown in the project space schultz contemporary and in museums and at biennials:

"The most important thing is the demanding quality of a work of art and curiosity. Curiosity drives me through life and through the studios. It keeps the gallery work and me young" says the art dealer, collector and gallery founder Michael Schultz.
